Litter picking in Romsey PDF Print E-mail

We had a very encouraging and rewarding morning on the 15th March and it was great to have our first Hope08 activity.

The sun shone for us as we gathered beside the Hope08 in Romsey banner which we had hung up in Latimer Street car park;

Adults, young people and children arrived ready to clean up the lanes and streets of Romsey.

We met at 9am, armed ourselves with litter pickers, gloves and bags and divided in to four groups. We talked through some safety issues, prayed and went on our way.

A number of the public asked why we were collecting rubbish and were grateful that were doing so. We explained that we wanted to get out of our churches and care for the community. There was a great sense of team work and after three hours we had collected 26 bags of fairly smelly rubbish!

Later all the bags were taken to the tip but not before enjoying delicious coffee and doughnuts provided by Angie Nelson at Oasis – we washed our hands first!

We plan to do more litter picking days so look out for the dates on the website.
